About do small ovens work as well as full-size ovens

Do small ovens work as well as full-size ovens?
I might be apartment-hunting in Minneapolis soon, and a lot of the apartments in my price range (yes, the cheap ones) have the smaller-sized ovens. I do a LOT of cooking, like actual recipes from scratch, so I don't want to get an apartment with a small oven if it doesn't work as well as a full-size oven. Thanks!

The type of oven it is makes a difference, and extreme differences in size can, but from standard to apartment size is only a few inches. If you're going to do much broiling, baking commercial items such as large amounts of cookies, wedding cakes, etc, then an apartment size won't work as good, but for the normal amount of meals in the US, an apartment size should be alright for most things. Going from electric to gas or vice-versa would make more of a difference to me. If the oven is a convection type of oven, it makes a huge difference also. I had a convection oven that I stored in a pantry in an apartment once, which I used for holidays and such for simple dishes, and used my oven for others. And, if you are the one that cooks the 24 pound turkey at Thanksgiving, then the small ovens might not work for you.
2 :
Get a convection/microwave combo oven all in one and that should make you happy.

If the stove is electric, it will be different. Gas is regulated, true heat. The temp is what it says to a point, you can always buy an oven thermometer?
4 :
They can, but individual ovens vary a lot between themselves regardless of their size. I agree about gas and convection if you can get them, but also a cheapie oven thermometer is essential for knowing the actual temperature your oven reaches compared to what you've set on the dial, whether there are hot spots in that oven, and whether the heat coming from the top and bottom are even, etc.** You might even take the thermometer with you to look at an apartment "because an accurate oven is very important to you," then turn on the oven when you first arrive. Before leaving, after pre-heating is completed, collect your thermometer and check its temp. Some ovens are way off, but can be controlled just by always adding or subtracting a certain number of degrees. Generally, you won't need a large oven if you're not cooking large turkeys or the baking pans you have or buy won't fit width wise. Especially in a small or old oven, I'd probably also be sure and have an "air-filled" baking sheet to moderate the bottom temp (sold for making cookies so their bottoms won't get too dark), or you could klug your own. **this page at my site has info about checking oven temp, etc., if you're interested (my site is primarily about polymer clay but since it has to be baked too, and temperatures are critical, we've learned a lot about ovens http://glassattic.com/polymer/baking.htm

About Is 24th and 4th Avenue safe in South Minneapolis

Is 24th and 4th Avenue safe in South Minneapolis?
Looking at an apartment over there where my wife can walk to work. Her work is near Abbott Hospital. About a mile away. She is willing to walk, but is worried about safety. We checked out an apartment on 24th and 4th Avenue- near Nicollet. Is this a safe neighborhood?

Haha. I lived at 3rd and 24th (I think) for about 3 years, about 4 years ago. Fair Oaks apartments, across from the Art institute. The neighborhood is fine, but I wouldn't walk alone at night, but there aren't many cities where a single girl would feel that way. MCAD, and the Art Institute all contribute to a safer feel, and it is improving, but about 10 years ago, the neighborhood was notoriously dangerous. The Fair Oaks park is still quite unsafe. And, unfortunatley, it gets more unsafe as you cross the freeway (the side the hospital is on.) You never know. I used to jog, and ride my bike around there daily. But, I wouldn't do it after dark. And she should bring some protection (pepper spray.) And one more thing, bus service is frequent and reliable. She might want to check into it. Ok, one last thing. I actually worked at Fair Oaks for a few years while attending graduate school. The management is great. Check into them. I loved living there. Tell Becky and Gerry (the head of maintenance) that Tammy from Taiwan says hello.

No. Inasmuch as I love the city, no. The neighborhood around Abbott Northwestern is not a good place for a woman to walk alone, even though there have been efforts by the city and local businesses to rejuvenate the area. One of my friends who is legally blind used to work at Abbott and had to catch the bus at Lake and Chicago. One afternoon---in the summer, in broad daylight---a bunch of jerks began harassing her at the bus stop. Luckily the owner of one of the shops there saw what was happening and called the cops. But I had a hard time getting over the idea that someone would bully an obviously disabled woman carrying a white cane. This was five years ago, by the way, and I realize the character of neighborhoods can change in a short amount of time. But the area has never had a particularly good reputation, and I just wouldn't let my loved one walk alone there, especially in the evenings. I've resided in various parts of the Twin Cities for over 25 years.

I sure wouldn't walk in that neighborhood alone! It might be wiser to look for an apartment in Bloomington or Richfield and take mass transit. South Minneapolis is the hood!

go to www.craigslist.com and on the Right side of page you'll see US CITIES...click on Minneapolis or go here: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ On the top of page you'll see HOUSING and just go from there..by the way this is a great site if you're looking for anything really! Jobs, Clothing, a free section and so on....have fun and good luck!
2 :
Post an ad on Craigslist and the online section of local paper. Look at rooms for rent in large homes. Sometimes a divorcee might be stuck in a huge 4-5 bedroom house and want to rent out a couple rooms cheaper than apartment rent. Plus you get a big pad that's clean and quiet.

Here is a great site to search for apartments. If cost is your primary target, I would be sure to sort by price once you click the link below. http://www.forrent.com/search-apartments-by-area/MN/Minneapolis.php This link narrows your search down to Minneapolis, but try searching by your college and then continue to narrow down your search; price, radius, etc. Just taking a peak, it looks like you are looking at around 750 for a 2 bedroom (375 a person). Good luck!

like the other two people have mentioned -- cragslist. lets say between the two of you, you can afford a total of $500 a month rent, with you each paying $250.. here are the places available to you: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/search/apa?query=&minAsk=min&maxAsk=500&bedrooms= you can modify the max/minimum price at the top, and search according to what you'd like, and how much you'd like to pay. you never know, you might end up finding a great deal. i have two friends/roommates that i live with. we rent a 4 bedroom single family house for only $850, in the como neighborhood of saint paul. we found it through craigslist. it doesn't get much better than that! lol good luck :)

About Where can I sell used computers in the Minneapolis area

Where can I sell used computers in the Minneapolis area?
I work for a large office that is switching to laptops, so have at least half a dozen perfectly good Dell Optiplex gx260/270s and over a dozen color monitors we would like to get a fair price for. All wiped, reset, and functional. NOT interested in selling to the public. Looking for one place to bring them all in for either consignment or cash. Any recommendations?? Must me in the twin cities metro area (Minnesota) Thanks!
